BECZ

Péter is a director, editor and producer working with commercials, documentaries, narrative projects and music videos, based in Budapest and Copenhagen.

With a long background as a creative in the agency world, Peter worked as a director and editor with Publicis Group, Umbrella Collective, POD LDN and Kubbco for such amazing clients as, NIVEA Global, Samsung, Philips, Gorenje, Grundig, Novo Nordisk or Hiventures.

Péter completed his MA in documentary filmmaking at SZFE in Budapest and completed an MA in Film and Media at the University of Copenhagen.

Besides making films and working with commercials, Peter is actively mentoring and creating support systems for other filmmakers. As the Creative Director at Verzió DocLab, he selects, mentors and connects projects with the international industry. He has been a mentor at FAMU and he is a guest teacher at Krogerup Hojskole, teaching documentary in a danish-hungarian field trip. Since 2022 he is an elected board member of MADOKE, the Hungarian Documentary Association. In 2023 Péter was a jury member at Finale Pilzen.

The story of Marius, the young giraffe that was put down and dissected at the Copenhagen Zoo, raises a number of questions about the ethics of the zoo industry and human attitudes to rare animals, children and death.

The film won the Audience Award for Best Documentary at Friss Hús Budapest, got the Best Short Documentary award at Doc.Berlin and released at 444.hu’s Jeti Mozi.

LOVE 1.0

I made a short film about my sister’s first time felling in love in the video game The Sims 4.

The film won the Best Love film Award at the 2023 Hungarian Independent Film Festival.

FROM FLOWER DUST TO TURKISH HONEY

Found footage love story of my parents.

VHS, a flowershop and smuggled goods from Istambul. Love in the 80s of Hungary.

A personal family archive shows my parents in their 20s as a freshly married couple. Besides their flowershop, they also had a side hussle. They were smuggle tourists. Going on trips back and forth between Hungary and Istambul they were selling denim and gold. One of these trips got captured on a VHS tape. The camera recorded not only their adventure, but also the beginning of a challanging marriage lasting 40 years until today. In the present me and my mother watch the tapes and we talk about marriage, love and broken hearts as I am contemplating marriage myself.

I am working on a documentary project about the world of museum guards in Hungary. The project is following various characters, showing their everyday mundane life as observing those who observe. The film is structured around various chapters, each focusing on one guard as a main character. The chapters are executed through different formats of film, documentary, fiction (based on reality) and animation.

VERZIÓ DOCLAB PITCH

Verzió DocLab is a 5-day intensive editing for directors and editors, organised during Verzió Film Festival in Budapest. The selected film projects pitch their in development films at Verzió DocLab Pitch in front of a professional industry audience.

As the Creative Director at Verzió DocLab Péter selects, mentors and connects projects with the international industry, he is also the creative and strategic mind behind the workshop and pitch event. The workshop and pitching event has became an essential place for high-quality author creative documentaries in Hungary and the region.
